Ms. Jost's Bio:
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I am so excited to meet you! This will be my fifth year at Dorchester. This is my eighth year teaching Math to fifth graders. I graduated from Loyola University in Maryland, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time at Lake George and Lake Wallenpaupack.
This year in Math, my goal is to help students embrace growth mindsets and understand that learning is an ongoing process. During class, students will have the opportunity to engage in exploration of mathematical concepts through scaffolded tasks that allow them to work toward developing their problem solving and reasoning skills. I believe that each child is unique with different sets of strengths and weaknesses, and I will work to build upon these. I will strive to create an environment where children feel safe to make mistakes and are willing to take risks. There will be high expectations in 5th Grade Math, and each student has one main job to do each day; try your best!
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I appreciate all of your support at home and look forward to a great year!
