Welcome to kindergarten! I am excited to be teaching kindergarten! For those of you who don't know, I taught kindergarten my first nine years at Dorchester. I then taught first grade for ten years. I then came back to kindergarten. This is my 34th year teaching at Dorchester! I am very familiar with the developmental stages of young learners. I am looking forward to guiding your child through these stages and helping him/her to feel successful as a learner.
This will be a wonderful year for your child. You will be amazed at the growth he/she will make this year. Together we can build a strong foundation for reading, writing and math. I will help your child progress at his or her own individual rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. I can help your child further develop social skills as he/she learns to work and play together with his/her peers. I will also help your child to gain more self-confidence, which is so important for future growth.
Please read to and with your child, every day if possible. Share your favorite stories and help your child to choose his/her favorites. Encourage your child to ask questions and guide him/her in finding the answers. Look over your child's work with him/her and review any skills we've covered. Most importantly, spend time with and enjoy your child. This year will go by so quickly. Take time to celebrate small successes and to share experiences, both good and bad.
"The best inheritance a person can give to his children is a few minutes of his time each day."
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I know that together we can make kindergarten a special and successful year for your child.
