Ms. Jost's Bio:
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am so excited for this upcoming year because it will be my first year at Dorchester. This is my fourth year teaching Math to fifth graders. I graduated from Loyola University in Maryland, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and minor in Special Education. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time at Lake George and Lake Wallenpaupack.
This year in math, Carol Mapes and I will be working collaboratively to help students embrace growth mindsets and understand that learning is an ongoing process. In our class, students will have the opportunity to engage in exploration of mathematical concepts through scaffolded tasks that allow them to work toward developing their problem solving and reasoning skills. We believe that each child is unique with different sets of strengths and weaknesses, and we will work to build upon these. We will strive to create an environment where children feel safe to make mistakes and willing to take risks. There will be high expectations in 5th Grade Math, and each of you has one main job to do each day; try your best.
As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. We appreciate all of your support at home and look forward to a great year!
