Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I am so excited to meet all of you! This will be my tenth year teaching 5th grade at Dorchester. I graduated from the University of Vermont, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Major Concentration in Sociology. Outside of school, I have two energetic and sweet kids; Samantha (5- almost 6) and Kellen (3). As a family, we enjoy spending time with family in Colorado and making new memories!
This year in math, Mrs. Neville and I will be working collaboratively to help students embrace growth mindsets and understand that learning is an ongoing process. In our class, students will have the opportunity to engage in exploration of mathematical concepts through scaffolded tasks that allow them to work toward developing their problem solving and reasoning skills. We believe that each child is unique with different sets of strengths and weaknesses, and we will work to build upon these. We will strive to create an environment where children feel safe to make mistakes and willing to take risks. There will be high expectations in 5th Grade Math, and each of you has one main job to do each day; try your best.
As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. We appreciate all of your support at home and look forward to a great year!
